The 12,000 square-foot museum boasts spacious, high-ceilinged galleries filled with natural light ~ an ideal setting for contemporary exhibitions. By presenting regional art-of-the-moment, Dallas Contemporary complements the larger established art institutions and strengthens the art community.
Patricia Meadows co-founded Dallas Contemporary in 1981 as D'Art aided by support from The Meadows Foundation. Renamed the Dallas Visual Art Center, or DVAC, in 1995, it offered classes, planned exhibitions, and organized programs for artists. Following Meadows' leadership were Directors Vicki Meek, Katherine Wagner, and Assistant Director Sherry Mick.
In 1999 the non-collecting museum moved into its current home as guests of The Meadows Foundation and changed its name to The Dallas Center for Contemporary Art [Dallas Contemporary] in 2002. Dallas Contemporary will move in 2009 to its own facility.
